2.1 About greeting

Greeting is the first of four items scored during the opening of the conference. That is the time between when the staff says, “Begin simulation,” and when dad says, “That doesn’t sound like Katie. It is probably something you are doing,” at about 2:10 into the scenario.

Greeting is just how the teacher greets the parent. Do they just say hi? Or do they really try to make the parent feel welcome? You will see in the segmenting module that we define the greeting as the section between Begin simulation and the teacher moving on to discussing the classroom or student. This item is all about how the teacher interacts with the parent as a human.

This is one of the most crucial elements of a conference because it sets the stage for everything that comes after (Walker & Legg, 2018).
